Joe Simpson beschreibt in "The Beckoning Silence" seinen inneren Kampf um die Entscheidung, mit dem Bergsteigen aufzuhören. Er nimmt sich noch einige schöne "klassische" Routen vor, darunter die Eigernordwand, die in diesem Buch das Hauptziel darstellt. Dabei spielen immer wieder die Zweifel, die gefährliche Route zu gehen, und natürlich die tragische Geschichte des Berges eine große Rolle.
Besonders spannend wird es dann, als Joe und sein Kumpel im unteren Bereich der Eigernordwand von einem Sturm überrascht werden...
Das Buch ist wirklich top, empfehlenswert vor allem für diejenigen, die bereits "Touching the Void" und "This Game of Ghosts" gelesen haben.
