Produktbeschreibung:

From Amazon.co.uk:
Since his debut in 1951 as The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield has been synonymous with "cynical adolescent". Holden narrates the story of a couple of days in his 16-year-old life, just after he's been expelled from prep school, in a slang that sounds edgy even today and keeps this novel on banned book lists. It begins:
If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth. In the first place, that stuff bores me, and in the second place, my parents would have about two haemorrhages apiece if I told anything pretty personal about them.
His constant wry observations about what he encounters, from teachers to phonies (the two of course are not mutually exclusive), capture the essence of the eternal teenage experience of alienation. --Amazon.com

Bewertung: 5 out of 5 stars - a brilliant book
"like Holden Caufield, I tell myself, theres got to be a better way.." Dexter Holland
Sometimes I need a book to keep me away a few hours in between things. That book is The Catcher in the Rye, the masterpiecce of first-person American fiction.

Bewertung: 5 out of 5 stars - One of the best books I have ever read.
Salinger's book was so often misunderstood. It is one of the best books I have ever read.

Bewertung: 1 out of 5 stars - Zero Stars would be more like it
As so many others I've heard a great deal about this book and was relatively open toward it when we had to read it for a university seminar. After the first few sentences this changed drastically.

To say that the narrator annoyed me would not sufficiently state my anger and dislike about this boring, one-dimensional kid. From page to page I had to suffer this loser's pointless ramblings. Six-feet under would have been a nice place for him to end, but I guess an asylum is just as fitting.

To say this book represents normal problems of teenagers is to say that they all are incapable of dealing with life and need to be medicated. Cause honestly being somewhat brain damaged is the only real problem this character had.

I could not find anything amusing about the story, the language was not overly impressive and the pacing and flow of the story was so shrewd that inbteween I felt I wasn't going to make it to the end, as it was that horrible.

If ... weiter

Bewertung: 3 out of 5 stars - gute Story - schlechte Verpackung

Bewertung: 1 out of 5 stars - Gefällt mir gar nicht!!
