Amazon.co.uk:
Plenty of liberal scholars, entertainers and pundits have railed against the hoodwinking of the American people, but Michael Moore's Dude, Where's My Country? stands out for its thoroughly positive perspective. He says America has been tricked by Republican lawmakers and their wealthy corporate pals, who use a combination of concocted bogeymen and lies to stay rich and in control. Moore is angry and has harsh words for George W Bush and his fellow conservatives concerning the reasoning behind going to war in Iraq, the collapse of Enron and other companies, and the relationship between the Bushes, the Saudi Arabian government and Osama bin Laden. But his book is intended to serve as a handbook for how people with liberal opinions (which is most of America, Moore contends, whether they call themselves liberals or not) can take back their country from the conservative forces in power.

Moore uses his trademark brand of confrontational, exasperated humour skilfully as he offers a primer on how to change the world view of one's annoying conservative blowhard brother-in-law, and he crafts a surprisingly thorough "Draft Oprah for President" movement. Refreshingly, Dude, Where's My Country? avoids being completely one-sided, identifying areas where Moore believes Republicans get it right and making some cutting criticisms of his fellow lefties. Such allowances, brief though they may be, make one long for a political climate where the shouting polemicists on both sides would see a few more shades of grey. Dude, Where's My Country? is a little bit scattered, as Moore tries to cram opinions on Iraq, tax cuts, corporate welfare, Wesley Clark and the Patriot Act into one slim volume--and the penchant to go for a laugh sometimes gets in the way of clear arguments. But such variety also gives the reader a broader range of his bewildered, enraged yet stalwartly upbeat points of view. --John Moe

The people of the United States, according to author and filmmaker Michael Moore (Bowling for Columbine, Stupid White Men), have been hoodwinked. Tricked, he says, by Republican lawmakers and their wealthy corporate pals who use a combination of concocted bogeymen and lies to stay rich and in control. But while plenty of liberal scholars, entertainers, and pundits have made similar arguments in book form, Moore's Dude, Where's My Country? stands out for its thoroughly positive perspective. Granted, Moore is angry and has harsh words for George W. Bewertung: 5 out of 5 stars - great book
i loved this book (ok a few parts i didnt like too mutch because it was just too sarcastic (so the letter from god)) but after all it is a great book and every body should read it!

Bewertung: 5 out of 5 stars - Liberaler Schlachtruf

Bewertung: 5 out of 5 stars - What the world needs is more Michael Moores
To phrase it in one sentence: Michael Moore at his best. Informative, witty, hilarious, excellently researched and - for me the most important - providing a possible approach for a better future for everyone ... and not only for the top bigwigs.
Some of the facts presented in this book are really hard to digest (the relations between the Bush family and the Bin Laden family to name only one), but it had been overdue that finally someone wrote it down and made it accessible to a wider public.

On the other hand Mr. Moore dusts off a lot of prejudices the rest of the world might have about the citizens of the U. S. of A. and the poll results he lists have been a real eye-opener.

This book is a real must-have for everybody, who takes a serious interest in the things that go on in the world. And who is interested in an alternative approach to the course humankind is taking now.

What remains to say is good luck and thank you very much, Mr. Moore

Bewertung: 3 out of 5 stars - Dude, where is thy wit?
I'm afraid that if you buy „Dude, where is my country?" on the grounds that you liked SWM, then you're in for a mayor disappointment. As it turns out, it's just Moore of the same. The author plagiarizes himself, and he does it badly, giving us a dowdy rehash of facts and jokes. Where SWM was acerbically funny, its follow-up is stale and grouchy, all-too-obviously made for instant financial success. You feel no idea behind it, no stength of conviction - Moore is no longer revolutionary, he is wining. In his preface, the author wonders at length why an established publisher like Warner Books dares to publish this book without apparently trying to censor it. Well, I guess there was no need for a censor: "Dude" is not going to stir, let alone shake, the system. In fact, I bet George is giving it to his cabinet as a Halloween treat.
