Bewertung: - Gutes Buch, spannende Geschichte
Ich habe dieses Buch wirklich gern gelesen. Es ist eine Spionage-Geschichte, bei der man sich wirklich schwer zwischen Gut und Böse entscheiden kann. Interessante, klar umrissene Charaktäre, sehr viel Lesefreude. Dieses Buch wurde mir in den Rezensionen als sehr erotisch angekündigt, in der Hinsicht wurde ich ein wenig enttäuscht. "The Pillars of the Earth" hat mich da schon mehr überzeugt. Doch das tut dem Erfolg dieses Werkes keinen Abbruch. Es ist nicht grandios, aber durchaus gut.

Brilliant ist etwas Anderes, doch es lohnt sich duraus, es zu kaufen.

Bewertung: - Solides Werk, in bekannter Manier
Einmal mehr sucht sich Ken Follet die Geschehnisse des zweitern Weltkrieges als Plott für einen seiner Romane aus. Vorallem für Leser die geschichtlich etwas bewandert sind und den Verlauf des Afrikafeldzuges von General Rommel kennen, werden noch etwas mehr in dieses Buch eintauchen können.
Aber auch ohne dieses Vorwissen hat Ken Follet einen soliden Agententhriller geschrieben, der in bekannter Manier voll auf Katz und Mausspiel setzt, wo Jäger zu gejagten werden und auch die erotische Komponente nicht auf der Strecke bleibt - was wäre ein Follet Buch, ohne die obligatorische Romanze... ich habe das Buch sehr zügig gelesen, konnte mich gut auf die Story einlassen.

Was man von diesem Buch nicht erwarten darf sind große Überraschungen. Wer schon das ein oder andere Buch von ihm gelesen hat, der wird wohlbekannte Handlungsmuster wiederfinden, welche dennoch Spannung garantieren. Eindeutig schwächer als "Die Säulen der Erde" aber auch wesentlich stärker als sein ... weiter

Bewertung: - Well written and entertaining....but also very erotic!
It occurred to me by the end of the book that Ken Follett should be writing for Playboy or Penthouse! He has the ability to write some really erotic stuff and you start to wonder where he gets all his material from! This is a book set in wartime Egypt with a German spy but the spy has the really tough life of living on a houseboat with a bellydancer with a very high sex drive and who wants threesomes whenever possible. This poor German spy has to provide the women and sometimes he has to join in....poor man! As well as all the sex, the spy Alex Wolff manages to steal some secrets, pass them to Rommel and give the Afrika Korps the very real chance of conquering Egypt. Only one man, British Major William Vandam (great name) is determined to stop Wolff. Vandam is a widower and also has a son which makes him instantly desirable to all the ladies...which brings us to even more sex!

Mr Follett, you have a naughty mind!

this was my third book by Ken Follett and it certainly was the best of those three. Follett leaves out the U.S. for once and concentrates on other suppressors in the II.WW. This book shows that there is no black/white= good/bad story in those days. What makes all of his books very fascinating is the erotic stories combined with the hard life during a war.

Bewertung: - Another Follett Gem
I have become an avid fan of anything Ken Follet writes because I never know where his words will take me in time and space. I am not a military enthusiast by any means, but this novel set during WWII captured all my attention. Follett's Character development is second to none; it is very easy to visualize each person in the novel, especially Alex.
