Ein spannendes Buch, das sehr gut in die Welt von Kay Scarpetta einführt und im englischen sogar noch mehr zu fesseln vermag, als im deutschen! Trotz der anschauliche geschilderten Autopsien und Leichen, die jedoch für das Geschehen nötig sind, ist es jedem zu empfehlen, der sich gerne in die Welt von Thrillern und Krimis entführen lässt. Patricia Cornwell schreibt ausgezeichnet und die Romanfiguren erwachen zum Leben, schon, wenn man die erste Seite gelesen hat. Ihr soziales Umfeld und die Personen sind gut dargestellt und verhalten sich auch dem gemäss! Sie sind vielschichtig und facettenreich, am anschaulichsten an Kay Scarpettas Nichte Lucy zu erklären und verstehen. Ein 10jähriges Mädchen mit hohem Intellekt, aber einer Weltanschauung ihrem Alter gemäss, was manchmal zum schmunzeln bringt und einem manchmal die Kehle zuschnürt. Gerade das ist einer der Gründe, warum man das Buch so schnell nicht wieder aus der Hand legt!

Bewertung: - Jetzt kann man sie wieder ertragen
Kay Scarpetta ist wieder da. Nachdem die vorangegangenen Bücher immer unleserlicher wurden, Frau Scarpetta immer unsympathischer erschien, scheint sie sich wieder zu normalisieren. Postmortem funktioniert nach dem gewohnt spannenden Muster, auch diesmal wird Scarpetta zwar wieder von Paranoia geplagt, die aber besser aufgebaut ist, als in den letzten 5 oder 10 Folgen.
Nach dieser Folge bin ich wieder etwas mit der Superfrau versöhnt, werde mir das nächste auch wieder kaufen.

After reading Patricia Cornwell's "Unnatural Exposure" I was so drawn to her writing style and characters that I decided I had to have more. So, I took it upon myself to add "Postmortem" to my library of suspense novels. Although I am new to Cornwell's books, I think that this may be one of the best books I have ever read. The way she uses her medical knowledge and background to create the plot and characters amazes me, and the story itself was so real that each chapter sent me on a rampage throughout my house to make sure that all the doors and windows were locked! I am a high school English student planning on becoming a writer myself, and I believe that Patricia Cornwell has given me an excellent role model to look at in my own writing endeavors. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys suspenseful reading and forensic mysteries....as long as you can keep the fact that it is only a book in your mind....

Bewertung: - pageturner...ending a bit weak though...
I read this book because I read the author's two latest books "Southern Cross" and "Hornet's Nest" and all the reviews seemed to say that the Kay Scarpetta books were much much better. First of all, I loved the first person perspective. I think it was done well, and added to the mystery, in that the reader is only exposed to the thoughts of one person. I do agree with most reviews that the ending was a bit dissatisfying...however, by that point I think any other choice for the murderer would almost seem "obvious"...agh, I dont want to give anything way. The main thing that sucked me into this book was its atmosphere. After reading the first 50 pages or so, I do not want to let my girlfriend out of my sight. Yes yes, it scared the crud out of me. Needless to say, I am going to stick to this author's books, and keep reading them, until I am disappointed. I have not been disappointed yet. :)

Bewertung: - Not as good as the others . . .
I enjoy Ms. Cornwell's books and the Kay Scarpetta character. However, I agree with other reviewers that Ms. Cornwell did her readers a disservice when she introduced the murderer at the very end. Part of the thrill for us mystery readers is trying to guess "whodunit," and we feel cheated when we don't get that chance. Also, I agree the subplot with Bill Boltz was just left hanging.

I write in particular to complain about Ms. Cornwell's description of one of the victims. In describing the victim's voice, Ms. Cornwell uses the word "cultured." The victim is African-American. Ms. Cornwell should be informed that simply because a black person "sounds white" does not mean that person is "educated," nor should she imply that all white people sound "cultured." This has bugged me since I read the book several weeks ago.

Further, I listened to the audio version and am bothered by the use of a woman with an English accent to serve as narrator for a woman who is ... weiter
