Produktbeschreibung:

From Amazon.co.uk:
From Antarctica to Zimbabwe, if you are going there chances are Lonely Planet has been there first. With a pithy and matter-of-fact writing style, these guides are guaranteed to calm the nerves of first-time world travellers, while still listing off-the-beaten-path finds sure to thrill even the most jaded globe-trotters. Lonely Planet has been perfecting its guidebooks for nearly 30 years and as a result, has experience and know-how similar to an older sibling's "been there" advice. The original backpacker's bible, the LP series has recently widened its reach. While still giving insights for the low-budget traveller, the books now list a wide range of accommodations and itineraries for those with less time than money.

Just as the authors describe China as "massive and endlessly fascinating", so is the material they have collected in this guide--an important travellers' opus. The 200-plus maps feature keys in English and Chinese script, there are essential details on transport options, a 12-page Chinese arts section, and a useful feature on the Chinese language. --Kathryn True

Kunden-Rezensionen
Durchschnittliche Bewertung: out of 5 stars

Bewertung: 1 out of 5 stars - disappointment
I lived three months in Fuzhou, Fujian Province.
The informations in the planet were good for nothing.
The highly recommended "must try" restaurant is a total rip off,
the Shangri-La Hotel is not listed (opened 2005),
the Fuzhou Hotel is indicated wrong on the map,
the Fuzhou English Corner, were locals meet daily
to chat and improve their English is not listed and so on.....
It seems as if the authors have rushed through Fuzhou some years ago
and did not mind updating the information.
As they say in the beginning of the chapter: Fuzhou is not worth a visit.
Excuse me??? What is that?
To ignore a harbour city of 6 million inhabitants in a guide book is simply a shame.
My suggestion: Try the internet instead.
ctrip or elong for flights and hotels, for other needed information,
ask the staff of your hotel or other locals or expats.

Bewertung: 4 out of 5 stars - it definitly helps
Well, can you capture the plurality of China in less than a 1000 pages? Probably not, but somehow the lonely planet team managed to provide a fairly good guidebook for people who try to tackle travelling on their own. Is it possible? Yes (even if you forget to buy a phrasebook as we did!) A real plus is that the planet writes every location name in Chinese letters (right behind the English one) which is of tremendous help if you need to ask somebody the way. Learning a little Mandarin doesn't hurt either and although it's a very tricky language - you'll be able to master a few phrases and words, and your efforts will be worth it, trust me! People will appreciate it tremendously and you'll get a lot of laughs as well..

We tried some less travelled roads, and admittedly, although it get's a little tiring being stared at at times, China left quite an impression on us. Be prepared by a clash of rich and poor! The planet proved a reliable and great guide to us, although it sometimes ... weiter

Bewertung: 5 out of 5 stars - Great for a first trip!
China is huge! Too big for one single book. But the best guide you can get ist this "Lonely Planet!". If your new to China you will find all you need. But make sure you get the newest edition.

Bewertung: 5 out of 5 stars - Eben Lonely Planet

Bewertung: 5 out of 5 stars - No trip without the LP China
If you plan a trip or a stay in China, you better take the LP China with you! There is no way to buy it in China (because LP China doesn't include Taiwan, which is against China's One-Country policy)! The LP China is a great help for people who are not familiar with Chinese charakters. Every destination is written bilingual (English/Chinese), so that you can easily ask locals for the way. And for Chinese speaking people: even the tones are written as well! Although China is changing very fast, the given information is quite up to date, e.g. prices for train trips (except for some opening hours).
Personally, I appreciated the maps inside and the mentioned trips, e.g. a Great Wall walk. The general information is helpful as well and offer brief but good introductions to various topics.
If you plan a long-term stay in a city it's worth to buy a LP city map. It's really a great deal, because it's quite handy and also bilingual and of a water-resistant material! So, what are you waiting ... weiter
