Produktbeschreibung:

Amazon.co.uk:
Firmly ensconced in the budget travel canon, Lonely Planet: Indiahas become as essential to sub-continental backpacker culture as the Himalayan hill stations, Arabian sea beaches and crafty rickshaw drivers it describes. Beyond the frank, thorough coverage of the country's highlights and pitfalls, indispensable maps and a snazzy full-colour guide to India's religions make this sturdy tome an endlessly useful one-stop reference. Though the emphasis is on "budget" travel, there are hotel and restaurant picks to accommodate you whether your budget is US$10 or US$500 a day. The book's only problem is that to some degree, it's a victim of its own success--it can be difficult to get off the beaten path when every English-speaking backpacker in South Asia is carrying the same guide. Fortunately, given India's (and the book's) seemingly endless charms, there's still enough to go around. --Andrew Nieland

Amazon.com:
From Antarctica to Zimbabwe, if you're going there chances are Lonely Planet has been there first. With a pithy and matter-of-fact writing style, these guides are guaranteed to calm the nerves of first-time world travelers, while still listing off-the-beaten-path finds sure to thrill even the most jaded globetrotters. Lonely Planet has been perfecting its guidebooks for nearly 30 years and as a result, has the experience and know-how similar to an older sibling's "been there" advice. The original backpacker's bible, the LP series has recently widened its reach. While still giving insights for the low-budget traveler, the books now list a wide range of accommodations and itineraries for those with less time than money.

Explore the myriad wonders of India with this useful guide in hand. Whether you wish to cruise the backwaters of Kerala on the rooftop of a ferry, explore the Buddhist gompas of Leh, drink Darjeeling's namesake tea, get lost in the dusty bazaars of Hyderabad, or stroll the 16th-century ruins in Hampi, this book will help you get there. Highlights include more than 200 traveler-tested maps, thousands of places to stay and eat for all budgets, excellent health information, all you need to know about transportation options, and a 32-page color section on India's religions. --Kathryn True

Kunden-Rezensionen
Durchschnittliche Bewertung: out of 5 stars

Bewertung: 1 out of 5 stars - Unzuverlässig und veraltet
Concerning Lonely Planet Publications; 12th rev. edition (21. September 2007), ISBN-10: 1741043085

Overall: We were in India for 2 months (Feb/Mar 2008; this is NOT high season!) and this was by far the worst LP guidebook I ever had for almost 2 decades. Although only 6 months old almost all of its information is outdated.

Examples:
- In most hotels you pay approximately 50-100% more
- Between many destinations LP indicates only very few buses (2-4 per day) but in fact there are 20 to 30.
- And thousand other examples

How could that be?

First we thought that some writers (about one dozen wrote this LP) cheated LP. E.g. after facing so many things different from the LP in Radjasthan we asked a hotel owner in Udaipur why his rooms are 100% more expansive than indicated in the LP.
His answer was: "The last time the LP guy came here was more than 3 years ago. Have a look: In the newest LP is my art shop described, ... weiter

Bewertung: 5 out of 5 stars - good as always
This brand new edition of the LP guide to India is good as most LPs. Due to the huge size of the country it is not possible to cover every detail, but this was okay for me.
If you go to Radjastand then I would urgently suggest buying the seperate guide. Otherwise this is the book to shoot for.

Bewertung: 4 out of 5 stars - More detailed
Compared to the footprints India book far superior. Maps are far more detailed, hotel and restaurant infos more precise and up to date. Sure it is probably also the most often used book, but for good reasons.

Bewertung: 3 out of 5 stars - Indien - Bombay
Dear Readers,

Well, I have bought this book just before I went to Mumbai to visit a friends' wedding. I bought the book to get an impression of the country and because I thought I will go back there more than once. I thought using book for Mumbai to start with would be enough. The book is good and Mumbai brief in description, but the maps of the city should be a little bit more detail. The hotel descriptions are fine, although having arrived in Mumbai other hotels/hostels might be good quality and cheaper. Sights, like gateway to India are good described and people there are not too nice. A good point to be improved is the Shopping, Crossroads Shopping Centre is bad, nothing really good to buy, I was looking for Indian Cricket stuff and and Bundra prooved to be much better. In terms of Mumbai this Lonely Planet is possibly not the best choice, but the other choices of LP are just very costly all the time. Really have in advance before buying the book.

Bewertung: 5 out of 5 stars - Das einzige Muß für einen Traveller
